This course provides an understanding of the elements relating to Australian food labelling requirements. It covers the Food Standards Code, ACCC Consumer Law and NMI Trade Measurement requirements. Topics include the new country of origin requirements, health star ratings, product claims and more.
Country of Origin Labelling
New country of origin labelling requirements came into effect in Australia on 1 July 2016. The new requirements are designed to make it easier for customers to understand the origin of products, so they can make a quick yet informed decisions about their food purchases.
This course guides you through which foods the Standard applies to, the priority implementation list, how to calculate the proportion of Australian content, which label statement to use, where to display the country of origin information on your product and more.
Presented skills:
• Ability to review and develop valid Food Labels for foods in Australia.
• Ability to use Food Standard Code in relation to Labelling.
• Verification and record keeping requirements for CoOL.
• Use of Australian government CoOL online tool.
Presented knowledge:
• Label requirements under the Food Standards Code, Australian Consumer Law and Weights and Measurement legislation.
• Changes to CoOL legislation and transition arrangements.
• Application of Health Star Ratings to Food Labels.
Upon successful completion of assessment, a certificate of completion will be awarded.
